Cooperation Partners:Logo

Project description:

Within the project the department researched the needs, acceptance and experiences of elderly people with technology in everyday life. “Ambient Assisted Living” (AAL) is seen as a promising approach to enable elderly people to stay autonomous as long as possible, as the technology is very intuitive and doesn't require special competences. The focus of the project is a residential complex of the BauAG built 2007 for singles and couples as well as families. The apartments were set up with different components of automation technology to test them for their suitability for everyday use. Core element of this concept is the Touchscreen-Computer PAUL from the department of Automatic Control at the TU Kaiserslautern. The social sciences accompanying research dealt with questioning the users to subjects such as usage habits and experiences with the technology. Standardized interviews were done. Important was the question if and to what extent the acceptance and adoption of the AAL- technique changed over time and which status the technology, the apartment itself, the surroundings and the neighborhood had concerning the satisfaction. Besides the technological aspect it was also important to follow the forming of the community. This was accompanied by the department of urban sociology with continuous meetings. The goal of the project was to simplify the everyday life of elderly people with technology (Assisted Living) and to support the social integration  with an active community in the area.
