The EU Project “Cities in Balance” is a response to the Europe-wide changes in the demographic structure and the resulting consequences for urban development and planning. The city of Kaiserslautern is testing measures with different project partners that shall sustainably affect the future development of the test areas Bännjerrück / Karl-Pfaff-Siedlung.

The research is accompanied by the department of Urban Sociology, which is working on the following aspects:

  • Planning and executing a future workshop to the subject “What shall our district look like in 20 years?”. In this workshop the citizens can discuss changes they would like as well as bring in own ideas on how the are shall develop. The goal is to find projects in which the citizens are an active part.
  • Support for content and concepts of a district specific internet platform that offers information on the district and enables the possibility to actively work on the development and design. The set up for the platform is done in cooperation with the city of Kaiserslautern, which is taking over the technical implementation.
  • Organization, execution and documentation of a local workshop with the subject “Assisted Living”
