In the research project “FIGURE” an ambient technology to measure vital signs is being developed, based on a system which allows fingerprint detection. Vital signs can be monitored and possible health issues can be detected. The role of the Department of Urban Sociology in this project is the integrated social-scientific accompanying and acceptance research.
This research shall give an insight on which requirements of the future users (esp. residents of a nursing home and geriatric nurses) have to be met by a system, which collects and saves personal data. With social-scientific methods the skills and necessities of the potential users will be analysed. Also their view and expectations in regards to ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) will be identified and evaluated. The research focuses on terms of the interaction with technology, data privacy, privacy in general, monitoring, self-determination and independence. The results of the studies can help the developers modify the technology according to the needs of the users.
Project partners are the Institute for Software Systems in Economy, Environment and Administration from the Trier University of Applied Sciences, Silver Creations AG (Hoppstädten-Weiersbach), Aventaurus GmbH (Kaiserslautern) and the German Red Cross Senior Centre (Kaiserslautern).
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research as part of the funding program “IKT 2020 – Research and Innovation”.
